Book Clubs in Lagos

Then joining a Book Club is the right place for you. Luckily, there are numerous Book Clubs scattered all over several areas in the Lagos metropolitan state.

        Lagos being one of the fastest growing mega-cities in the world and the largest in Africa and known for its business, commerce, trading and cultural artistic presence, it is no surprise that Lagos is far ahead of other cities in its nation Nigeria in terms of education and infrastructural development. Its strong educational sector makes Lagos have the largest number of educated graduates and literate readers in the county.

        Writing has fast become an eloquent business in the county with several Lagosians craving new forms of the written art daily, it is for this reason, to satisfy raging bookworms that Book Clubs have been introduced into the system. Some of the Book Clubs that can be found in Lagos are:

5. Bookworms Arise Book Club: A Book Club open to book lovers residing in Nigeria. We are open in the following states; Lagos (Mainland and Island), Abuja, Kwara, Jos and Portharcourt. Bookworms Arise Book Club was borne out of the need to satisfy raging bookworms and bring together like minded individuals to discuss and develop good reading habits.

Channels Book Club: The Channels Book Club is a television programme hosted on Channels tv station with the aim of promoting books and authors, carrying out bookclubs.com.ng reviews, attending book fairs, organising writing competitions among youths, as well as influencing government policies positively in favour of reviving the love for reading among Nigerians in diaspora. Some writers who have been featured on the programme include: Nike Campbell Fatoki, Uzor Ngoladi, Kolawole Oyewole, Adeolu Akinyemi, Toyin Adesola, Major Bashorun, Sefi Atta, amongst many others.

7. Bookaholics Book Club: Bookaholics club is a group of literary enthusiasts who love to read and have fun. Venue: Patabah Bookstore, Adeniran Ogunsanya Mall, Surulere, Lagos. Days Open: Last Sunday of the month, 3pm.
8. Lagos Bookclub: Lagos Books Club seeks to contribute to, and encourage reading culture in Africa, It is our belief that reading is one of the keys to enlightenment and self-empowerment in our society. LBC promotes reading amongst children and young adults, runs reading workshops for students and teachers, promotes the works of African authors, as well as library development.
